Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you visit josephortega.com (the “Site”), how it is used and shared, and the choices and rights you have, including rights under California law. The Site is operated by Joseph Ortega (“I,” “me,” or “we”).
1. Information I collect
Information you provide
When you submit the contact form, I collect the information you enter, which may include your name, email address, the inquiry type you select, and any message you write. When you subscribe to the newsletter, I collect your email address. You choose what to provide; the email field is required for these features to work.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, certain technical information is collected automatically by the hosting, security, and analytics services described below. This may include your IP address, approximate location (derived from IP), browser and device type, pages viewed, referring page, and the date and time of access. This is standard for nearly all websites and is used to operate the Site, keep it secure, and understand aggregate traffic.
2. How I use information
- To respond to your inquiries and communicate with you.
- To send the email newsletter when you have asked to receive it.
- To operate, maintain, and secure the Site, including preventing spam, fraud, and abuse of the forms.
- To understand aggregate, non-identifying usage so I can improve the content and experience.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce my terms or protect legal rights.
For visitors in the EEA and UK, the legal bases for this processing are your consent (for the newsletter), my legitimate interests (operating and securing the Site and responding to inquiries), and compliance with legal obligations.
5. No sale of personal information
I do not sell your personal information, and I do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. I have not done so in the preceding 12 months. I do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16 years of age.
6. Data retention
I keep contact submissions for as long as needed to respond to and document our correspondence, and newsletter email addresses until you unsubscribe or ask me to remove you. Automatically collected technical and analytics data is retained for a limited period by the services described above, in line with their standard retention windows. I delete or anonymize information when it is no longer needed.
7. Security
The Site is served over HTTPS, and submissions are transmitted securely. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so while I take reasonable measures to protect your information, I cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access or request a copy of the personal information I hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Delete your personal information.
- Withdraw consent (for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter).
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and request data portability.
To exercise any of these rights, contact me using the details in section 15. I will respond within the time required by applicable law. You will not be treated differently for exercising your rights.
9. California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you specific rights regarding your personal information.
Categories of personal information collected
In the past 12 months, I have collected the following categories of personal information, as defined by the CCPA:
- Identifiers — such as name, email address, and IP address.
- Internet or other electronic network activity — such as pages viewed and interactions with the Site.
- Geolocation data — approximate location derived from IP address.
- Other information you choose to provide — such as the contents of a message you send me.
This information is collected from you directly and automatically through your use of the Site, for the business purposes described in section 2, and shared with service providers only as described in section 4. I do not collect sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you.
Your California rights
- Right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of third parties with whom it is shared.
- Right to delete personal information I have collected, subject to legal exceptions.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. I do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
- Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information. I do not use sensitive personal information beyond what is permitted by law.
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
How to exercise your California rights
You may submit a request using the contact details in section 15. I may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests by confirming information you have previously provided. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf, in which case I may require proof of the agent’s authorization.
“Shine the Light”
California’s “Shine the Light” law (Civil Code § 1798.83) allows California residents to request information about disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. I do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing.
Residents of other U.S. states with comprehensive privacy laws may have similar rights and can contact me using the same details below.
10. Children’s privacy
The Site is intended for a general, professional audience and is not directed to children under 16. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided me with personal information, contact me and I will delete it.
11. International visitors
The Site is operated from the United States, and the service providers described above may process and store information in the United States and other countries. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries whose data-protection laws may differ from those of your country.
12. Third-party links
The Site may link to external websites and services (such as LinkedIn or scheduling tools). I am not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. Review their privacy policies before providing them with information.
13. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” signal. Because there is no common standard for how to respond to these signals, the Site does not currently respond to them. The Site does not track you across third-party websites for advertising in any case.
14. Changes to this policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When I do, I will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes may be highlighted on the Site. Your continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
15. How to contact me
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or want to exercise a privacy right, reach me through the contact form on this Site. Please include enough detail for me to understand and respond to your request.
